Rebuilding Together New Orleans is a program of the Preservation Resource Center. Their mission is to continue volunteer effort to improve the quality of life of low-income homeowners, particularly those who are elderly, disabled, or single head of households with minor children, through home repair and the revitalization of New Orleans’ neighborhoods. They’ve leveraged thousands of volunteers and rebuild over 100 homes since hurricane Katrina. Largely staffed by young and ambitious AmeriCorp volunteers, Rebuilding Together evacuteers were inspiring and amazing during the evacuation of New Orleans for Hurricane Gustav, donating over 1,000 hours of volunteer work collectively over five days of evacuation and re-entry. Their partnership with evacuteer.org will extend their impact in community revitalization. They have motivated AmeriCorps service members and staff who want to help the New Orleans community by serving those who depend on the City Assisted Evacuation Plan. By partnering with Evacuteer.org, Rebuilding Together New Orleans plays a role to ensure that those who do not have transportation can evacuate and come back home safely and efficiently.
