City Year Louisiana Corp members are 18-24 year olds that are a part of rebuilding Louisiana’s communities be serving as tutors and mentors in Louisiana pubic schools. The organization's mission is to build democracy through citizen service, civic leadership and social entrepreneurship; it's vision is for one day the most commonly asked question of a young person to be “Where are you going to do your service year?”
Being a part of evacuteer.org each year is a priority for City Year Louisiana Corp. Not only are they able to have important conversations with students about life preparedness, but they are also able to raise awareness regarding hurricane preparation and safety with local youth that continues in their homes with families and friends. Their group of young volunteers are proud to always be ready to serve the community in any way possible. City Year Corps members devoted several hundred hours of time upon the re-entry of the assisted evacuees post-hurricane Gustav. They will be a huge asset to us as evacuteers during the 2011 storm season.
